About
Causal discovery, health data, and life outside the lab
I'm a PhD student in Health Informatics (Data Science Track) at the Institute of Health Informatics, University of Minnesota, advised by Dr. Erich Kummerfeld. My work centers on causal discovery — learning causal structure from observational data — and unbiased validation techniques that give honest estimates of how methods perform in practice.
Since December 2023, I've collaborated with Dr. Kummerfeld's group on analytics for U.S. public school districts, building pipelines over large longitudinal student datasets. I also volunteer with the Mobile Health Initiative when data analysis support is needed for immigrant health programs. My recent simulation work on resampling in causal discovery is on arXiv — see Google Scholar for the full list.
Away from research, I swim regularly — usually about a mile — and I've picked up biking and running on weekends. I love cooking (experimenting counts as success), and I'm always up for a philosophical debate over coffee. Minneapolis has grown on me; northern lights and lake trails are still on the checklist.
